One her own.

Song by Destiny's Child - Survivor

Now that you are out of my life, I'm so much better

Misty stretched out on her bed, hugging her starmie plushie to her chest and sighing contentedly. Ever since her sisters had left the gym to pursue their own careers, the gym had flourished, and Misty found herself glad that her only siblings had left.

You thought that I'd be weak without ya, but I'm stronger

Originally, Misty was sure her sisters had thought that she would go running back to them, begging them to return, but, she had not. Throughout Misty's life, her sisters had treated her like a trained growlithe that they could order around, their little sister who conveniently doubled as a servant. Without them, Misty had blossomed, finally able to find her own place in life.

You thought that I'd be broke without ya, but I'm richer

At first, they had offered to send Misty money as soon as she got broke, but Misty had no need for their money. The gym got so many more trainers those days, and she had continued on the water shows, though much more better than her sisters' shows. So much more better. And now Misty had lots of money to spend, though she often donated it to charities for water pokemon.

You thought that I'd be sad without ya, I laugh harder

Last time she had talked to her sisters, they had been expecting to see a sullen, depressed little brat. Instead, there was a bright, happy young woman, pleased with her life and her work. She found life so much easier to enjoy without worrying about Violet, Lily and Daisy.

You thought I wouldn't grow without ya, now I'm wiser

Without her sisters ordering her around, Misty had had a lot of free time, and as a result, she had take a few courses at the Cerulean College, making up for her lost years of education. She took a few extra pokemon courses, enhancing her training ability, and dedicated some of her time to working on taking care of her pokemon, making sure they were healthy and happy.

You thought that I'd be helpless without ya, but I'm smarter

Originally, Misty had found it strange to do everything on her own, but she adjusted. She could cook her own meals, and she cleaned the house and the gym herself, though she had help with the gym on weekends, since so many trainers came then. She managed the bills and taxes on her own, she could deal with reporters by herself.

You thought that I'd be stressed without ya, but I'm chillin'

Misty rolled onto her back on her bed, still holding onto the starmie stuffed toy. It was a Monday, one of her less busy days, and she was taking the time to relax. Though she did that everyday, either by soaking in a bath or sprawling out on her bed and watching TV. She always found time to relax, now that she did not have her sisters yelling for her every single second.

You thought I wouldn't sell without ya, sold 9 million

Being the vain girls Lily, Daisy, and Violet were, they had expected that the water show would not sell without their 'beautiful selves'. But it did. It even sold more. Misty pulled it off, he knew what people wanted to see.

I'm a survivor (what), I'm not gonna give up (what) I'm not gon' stop (what), I'm gonna work harder (what) I'm a survivor (what), I'm gonna make it (what) I'm a survivor (what), keep on survivin' (what)

Getting up, Misty looked out her window with a smile, then walked over to a table and turned on the radio. Life *was* good those days. True she had to work a little harder without her sisters handling the care of the gym, but she did not care. She enjoyed doing the 'dirty work'. She found challenges fun. It was nice having a chance to prove herself worthy.

Thought I couldn't breath without ya, I'm inhalin'

Her stupid sisters... They had thought Misty revolved around them. It was more like *they* dragged her around, refusing to let her go. For some reason, they had thought Misty would just give up and die without them.

You thought I couldn't see without ya, perfect vision

But no. Things were clearer to Misty. She had so much more time to take a look at things, to enjoy her own life. It'd been several years since she had journeyed with Ash, Brock, and Tracey, and while her sisters were around, she had not had time to do what she wanted.

You thought I couldn't last without ya, but I'm lastin'

Thinking about what her sisters had expected of her always made Misty shake her head in disbelief. And she knew that for them, realizing how well off Misty was, made them shake their heads in disbelief.

You thought that I would die without ya, but I'm livin'

First they had thought that Misty could not make it without them, that she would crawl back to them, begging them to return from their new jobs as models or whatever.

Thought that I would fail without ya, but I'm on top

Then they had decided that Misty was just stubborn, and that she would get over her stupid idea that she could make it without her sisters and realize how much she needed them.

Thought that it would be over by now, but it won't stop

Then, when they had seen her success, they had tried to pass it off as temporary, that it would not be long before everything got to be too much for their little sister, that there was no way she could keep it up.

Thought that I would self destruct, but I'm still here

They thought that maybe Misty secretly missed them, that she really wanted them back and was hiding a deep sadness, but she wasn't. The big smile on the redhead's face was far from fake.

Even in my years to come, I'm still gonna be here

And Misty was planning on keeping that smile. She was planning on living a good life.

I'm a survivor (what), I'm not gonna give up (what) I'm not gon' stop (what), I'm gonna work harder (what) I'm a survivor (what), I'm gonna make it (what) I'm a survivor (what), keep on survivin' (what)

Misty knew how to pull through things, she knew how to make it on her own. She had spent her life struggling in the shadow of her sisters, and now it was her turn to bask in the glow of the sun. She was gonna work hard.

I'm wishin' you the best, pray that you are blessed Much success, no stress, and lots of happiness (I'm better than that)

Although Misty was glad that her sisters were gone, she did not hate them. She just did not miss them much, if at all. But she did wish them luck in their new career, whatever it was... Misty kept forgetting. But she wished them luck all the same.

I'm not gonna blast you on the radio (I'm better than that)

Misty had had many chances to insult her sisters publicly, but she didn't. That was just wrong. They were her sisters.

I'm not gonna lie on you or yo family, yo (I'm better than that)

She had so many little scandals and such that she could spread about her sisters, but they were staying in her head.

I'm not gonna hate on you in the magazine (I'm better than that)

Magazines had offered her lots of money to spill the beans, but Misty refused to.

I'm not gonna compromise my christianity (I'm better than that)

It was wrong to her to do something like that, so very wrong. Not something you did to your sisters...

You know I'm not gonna diss you on the internet ('Cause my mama taught me better than that)

Misty had morals, and she knew what was going too far.

I'm a survivor (what), I'm not gonna give up (what) I'm not gon' stop (what), I'm gonna work harder (what) I'm a survivor (what), I'm gonna make it (what) I'm a survivor (what), keep on survivin' (what)

Besides, Misty was thriving on her own, what did she need money from magazines for? She was doing well without them. She was making it well enough by herself.

After all of the darkness and sadness, soon comes happiness If I surround myself with positive things, I'll gain posterity

The first week or two after her sisters had left, Misty *had* felt hopeless, that is, until she had realized that she was a free bird now, that she didn't have to miss the previous cage of her life.

I'm a survivor (what), I'm not gonna give up (what) I'm not gon' stop (what), I'm gonna work harder (what) I'm a survivor (what), I'm gonna make it (what) I'm a survivor (what), keep on survivin' (what)

Misty had spread her wings and was flying high and free. She was exploring the deep waters of the world. Roaming through the jungles of society.

I'm a survivor (what), I'm not gonna give up (what) I'm not gon' stop (what), I'm gonna work harder (what) I'm a survivor (what), I'm gonna make it (what) I'm a survivor (what), keep on survivin' (what)

Misty was a survivor. She knew how to make it in life. Lily, Violet, and Daisy were gone, and now she was surviving, no, thriving without them. For Misty was a strong young woman. A talented person who was discovering how much she was worth, and fulfilling her dreams.
